Beware the breast screening ‘invitation’

The Sunday Express published a piece on 12 August 2012 by Lucy Johnston and Georgina Hammerton, entitled Mammogram `doesn`t work`. It was based on the recent Philippe Autier paper in the JNCI (Mammography Screening and Breast Cancer Mortality in Sweden) which concluded: ‘County-specific mortality statistics in Sweden are consistent with studies that have reported limited or no impact of screening on mortality from breast cancer.’

So why send healthy women a fixed appointment for something that has been shown to be ineffective but to cause great harm?
