Good news re UK healthcare

The Department of Health is giving almost £650,000 to the Point of Care Foundation over the next two years to expand the piloted Schwartz Center Rounds. By that time, around 40 additional trusts should have established the Rounds and the Point of Care Foundation will also have developed a national network of trainers and mentors who will continue to spread Rounds to new organisations into the future. They will also be piloted with GP practices, district nurses and in the community. The monthly meetings enable staff to discuss their work experiences in a supportive environment. This not only supports staff, but fosters teamwork and helps improve compassionate care.

And more good news: GPs are to take back responsibility for out of hours care under plans to change the GMS Contract, with named people responsible for patients’ care.
