Doctors don’t want to harm patients

What does it tell us when my bmj Rapid Response to ‘Universal Health Checks Should be Abandoned’ gains 904 ‘likes’?

Doctors do not want to harm patients by doing these checks and turning well people into patients. Health checks and screening are all ways of screening healthy or symptomless people. The ‘normal ranges’ become ever more stretched to encompass even more ‘abnormal’ signs – the drugs companies must be having a field day!

This is not iatrogenic harm – this is knowingly setting about procedures which will harm. And the age extended part of the breast screening programme has even surreptitiously become a randomised controlled trial – have any women/journalists looked at the consent process for that?
