Re-humanising healthcare

Hearts in Healthcare ( shares a link to a wonderful blog written by GP Dr Jonathan Tomlinson ‘A Better NHS – exploring relationships between doctors and patients and health policy’.

I was drawn to his post, 17.3.14, ‘The Emotional Labour of Care’: and, reading to the end, wanted to reach out to him. Patients stories often show ‘the other side’ of healthcare – stories of neglect and worse – but few healthcare professionals share what it is really like for them to work in the NHS. Dr Tomlinson gives us insight into the professionals’ ‘other side’. There are more equally interesting stories at the end of his blog.

This is why we need the NHS to change – this is why we need healthcare worldwide to change. It’s not working for patients or professionals.

Hearts in Healthcare aims to re-humanise healthcare – for professionals as well as patients.
The bmj Patient Partnership programme aims to promote the patient voice in that (health professionals’) journal.
Together they should be a force for change.
